Robbi Spencer, a singer, dancer, and musician, originally from Dayton,
OH began training for a career in entertainment at the early age
of three, continuing more formally upon acceptance to the Cincinnati
School of Performing and Creative Arts. Robbi majored in vocal music,
with a minor in piano, drama, and dance, preparing her for a scholarship
opportunity and acceptance into Kent State Universitys Vocal Music
Dept.
After enlisting into the USAF, with aspirations of joining the Air
Forces elite entertainment group, Tops in Blue Robbi was accepted
into this prestigious entertainment group. This led her to the world
of beauty pageants, where she reigned as the first black Miss Albuquerque,
USA while still a member of the armed forces. While Miss Albuquerque,
she was asked by the Republican Party of New Mexico, to perform
at major political functions, including the governors inauguration
ball.
After honorably discharging from the Air Force, Robbi returned to
Ohio, where she further pursued her dancing career, as a cheerleader
for the NFLs Cincinnati Bengals. She worked as a dance instructor
for children, ages 4-14, and choreographing and coaching for various
junior high and high school dance teams. Robbi then became a dancer
with the World Championship Wrestling (WCW), Monday Nite Nitro,
known as Nitro Girls.
In pursuit of a career in her first love-music, she ventured to
Vancouver, British Columbia, where she joined an international girl
band, known as Sweet Taboo. There were four members, coming from
Spain, the Philippines, the US, and Canada. After recording a demo,
the members gained the attention of Los Angeles based producers,
Presidential Campaign. Once arriving in LA, the members soon decided
to separate and pursue individual career paths. Robbi became her
own manger, agent, and PR person and joined forces with friends
and with the help of a strong team of producers, and world-class
musicians, Robbi wrote and co-produced a 13 song compilation, containing
an original blend of soul, r&b, salsa, and funk, on which Robbi
gave her debut performance on acoustic guitar.
To date, Robbi has performed for crowds, both small and large, opening
for R&B legend Howard Hewitt, performing alongside Dave Hollister
and his band House of Soul, and opened for the Pointer Sisters.
Robbi was fortunate to have studied under the tutelage of legendary
guitarist Phil Upchurch. You can also hear some of her writings
on some of prime-time TVs most popular TV shows, writing under Kurt
Farhquar of Farhquar Productions. You can hear Robbis vocals and
writings on the UPN show, Girlfriends, and she backed Macy Gray
on the title track for the UPN show, Second Time Around. Robbi has
also toured with Ali Woodson of the Temptations, as both, a background
singer and dancer, gaining a multitude of live performance experience.
Robbi Spencer is now in charge of her projects from top to bottom,
handling everything...production, vocals, keys, guitar, editing,
and engineering! Finally, she can say...SHE DID IT HER WAY!
